The Experience

Camping with South Wales DA is relaxed, friendly and informal.

Our meets bring people together in great locations to enjoy good company and shared experiences.

We offer a welcoming and easygoing way to enjoy camping in South Wales, with meets held throughout the year.

What it’s like

Plenty of space to relax and settle in

  • A friendly atmosphere without any pressure

  • People chatting, helping out, and getting to know each other

  • Easy to be as social or as private as you like

Some people arrive knowing no one and leave having made friends. Others simply enjoy the space and quiet. Both are equally part of the experience.

The Social Side

“Chairs come out. Conversations start.”

A group of people, including children, playing and walking on a large grassy field during sunset with long shadows, trees in the background, and a partly cloudy sky.
A group of people gathered outdoors at a camping site with caravans, sitting and standing on green grass, enjoying a sunny day with a partly cloudy sky.

There is often more going on than you might expect, especially on longer meets.

Informal chats around the field, coffee mornings, often with cake or biscuits, and group gatherings where everyone is welcome all help create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

On some meets and THSs there may also be social evenings, along with occasional activities such as games, raffles or bingo. Activities for children are sometimes organised too.

You are welcome to join in, but there is no pressure.

A mix of people

You will find a real mix on site:

  • Families enjoying time outdoors

  • Couples getting away for the weekend

  • Solo campers who quickly feel part of things

  • Members visiting from other District Associations

It is a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable.

“People actually talk to each other”

A different feel at every meet

People gathered in a restaurant decorated with Christmas ornaments and garlands, celebrating a holiday event.
A beach scene with sandy shoreline, a few people walking and sitting, some with dogs, and a calm ocean with gentle waves. In the background, there is a pier and a small town or city along the coast.
A group of ten people, mostly women, posing together at a birthday celebration with a backdrop that reads 'South Wales DA Happy Birthday,' decorated with gold balloons and star-shaped decorations.

Each meet has its own character, shaped by the location and time of year.

From coastal sites like Porthcawl and Fontygary to quieter countryside locations, no two meets feel exactly the same.

That variety is part of what keeps people coming back.

“No pressure. No expectations. It’s easy to join in.”

New to this?

If it’s your first time, you will not be the only one.

Most people find it easier than expected. A simple hello often leads to a conversation, and before long you feel part of things.

If you prefer to keep things quiet, that is just as welcome.

About our regions

District Associations are grouped into Regions across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Most camping opportunities, including meets and Temporary Holiday Sites, are organised by DAs, with some also run at Regional level.

Regions, and therefore District Associations, are represented at National Council, helping ensure the views of members are reflected at a national level, alongside Special Interest Sections and their Section Areas.
